Ambassador David Buom Choat arrived Abuja, Nigeria, on the 10th of January, 2023. He presented to H.E. President Muhammadu Buhari, the letter of credentials, accrediting him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Sudan, to the Federal Republic of Nigeria on 12th January, 2023.

H.E. Mr. David Buom Choat has been working for the Government of the Republic of South Sudan prior to her Independence in 2011. His meritorious achievement in service led to his being assigned to foresee the establishment of the Embassy in Nigeria: a task he actualized and remain in Nigeria as the Deputy Head of Mission from May 2012 to May 2014.

He also served as Deputy Head of Mission from July 2014 to July 2017 at the Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan to the Russian Federation, Moscow.

Before his appointment as the Head of Mission in Abuja, Nigeria, H.E. David Buom Choat has served in the Government of the Republic of South Sudan, in various capacities:

⦁ Head of Political, Finance, United Nations and Congressional Affairs Desk, Government of Southern Sudan Mission to the United States and United Nation, Washington DC, 2006 – 2011
⦁ He served as Acting Representative at the Permanent Mission of Republic of South Sudan to the United Nations, New York, July 2011 – May 2012.
⦁ Director, International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, 2020 – 2023.
⦁ Director, Regional Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation,2017 – 2020.

Ambassador David also displayed his stellar performance and has also worked in various capacities in the State of Iowa, before joining the Government service of the Republic of South Sudan.

Amb. David Buom Choat obtained a Master of Public Administration (Public Policy), Drake University,
Des Moines, Iowa. He also obtained his Bachelor of Science (Child and Family Services), from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa.

At leisure, he loves to exercise, reading, travel to new places, learn different cultures and enjoys visiting historical sites. He is happily married with children.
